It was erected in 1788 after designs by Sir J. Soane, in a Corinthian style of architecture, after the model of the Temple of the Sibyl at Tivoli. The Royal Exchange is the third building on this site, the first two having been destroyed by fire. The present building, by Tite, was opened in 1844.
