– Background –Adolf Holst was a German writer, poet, and editor born on January 7, 1867, in Branderoda. He studied philosophy, history, geography, and modern languages in Tübingen, Leipzig, and Berlin and worked as a tutor in various locations. From 1901 to 1913, he served as a prince's educator in the Schaumburg-Lippe princely house. Holst authored many children's books and poems and was the editor of "Auerbach's Children's Calendar" from 1918 to 1934. He also edited the annual publication "Neuer Deutscher Jugendfreund," which featured contributions from prominent writers such as Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse, and Selma Lagerlöf.
