Binding types

A prefixed O or Orig. means that the book has the original binding.

priv. = Privat - private / nachgeb. = nachgebunden - re-bound / Einbd.d.Z. = Einband der Zeit - binding of the time

Brosch. / Bro. / Br. = Broschur - soft cover

Kart. / Ktn. / Kt. = Karton - bound in boards

Pb. / Pp. = Pappband - paperback

Lw. / Lwd. / Ln. = Leinwand - linen

HLw. / HLwd. / HLn. = Halbleinwand - half linen

Led. /Ldr. = Leder - leather

HLed. / HLdr. = Halbleder - half leather

KLed. / KLdr. = Kunstleder - artificial leather

Pergmt. / Prgmt. / Prgmnt. = Pergament - parchment

HPergmt. / HPrgmt. / HPrgmnt. = Halbpergament - half parchment

Books with original book jacket are described with the following abbreviations: SU. / OSU. / OS. / OU. / OUmschl.

Books sizes and formats

When there is no explicit book size given, the book has standard size (Octavo) with a height of 18 to 22 centimeters (about 7.1 to 8.7 inches).

16° = Sedez = 8 - 12 cm - Sextodecimo, about 3.1 to 4.7 inches

12° = Duodez = 12 - 15 cm - Duodecimo, about 4.7 to 5.9 inches

kl. 8° = Kleinoktav = 15 - 18 cm - small Octavo, about 5.9 to 7.1 inches

8° = Oktav = 18 - 22 cm - Octavo, about 7.1 to 8.7 inches

gr. 8° = Großoktav = 22 - 25 cm - large Octavo, about 8.7 to 9.8 inches

4° = Quart = 25 - 35 cm - Quarto, about 9.8 to 13.8 inches

Fol. = Folio > 35 cm - folio, over 13.78 inches

Note: qu. or quer means, the book is in landscape format.
