Max Feldbauer (1869–1948) was a well-known German painter who was associated with the Munich Secession. He is best known for his paintings of rural, Bavarian scenes. Feldbauer began his art studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich and continued at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under notable instructors such as Otto Seitz, Paul Hoecker, and Johann Caspar Herterich. He later married fellow painter Elise Eigner and taught at the Academy of the Münchner Künstlerinnenverein. Feldbauer was a member of the Scholle and the Munich Secession, as well as founding member of the New Secession. He provided illustrations for Die Jugend and has his works exhibited in various galleries, including the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus. Feldbauer was initially banned from exhibiting under the Nazi regime, but was ultimately included in the "Gottbegnadeten-Liste" of artists essential to Nazi culture. He died in 1948 in Oberschneiding after being bombed out of his Munich home in 1944.
