– Background –

Kurt Arnold Findeisen (1883–1963) was a German writer, also known under the pseudonym Wendelin Dudelsack. He was born in Zwickau as the son of a mining official and a teacher's daughter. Findeisen attended a teacher training college in Jena and worked as a teacher and nurse before he started writing in 1914. From 1912, he was the editor of the monthly journal "Das Vogtland und seine Nachbargebiete," which focused on regional arts, literature, and science. In 1920, he became the editor of "Sächsische Heimat" and later worked for the Middle German Broadcasting Corporation. Despite being a member of the Nazi party, Findeisen was dismissed from his job in 1934 and worked as a freelance writer in Dresden. He wrote biographical novels, volkstümliche works, and lyric poetry, such as the novel "Der Sohn der Wälder" about Karl Stülpner and the novel "Du meine Seele, Du mein Herz" about Robert Schumann. One of his autobiographical works, "Der Perlenwagen. Bilderbogen einer Kindheit," was published a year before his death. In February 1945, Findeisen lost his home and an archive of rare sources on folklore and a collection of old Erzgebirge folk art in the Dresden bombing.
